SMALL CLAIMS:

Did you know that you may be awarded as much as Ten Thousand Dollars in a Small Claims action? Did you know that in Texas you may retain an Attorney and that the other party probably will bring one?

Most Attorneys who agree to represent you in a Small Claims action will do it on a contingency basis. This means that you may still pay court filing fees, but if you win your case, you agree to pay your Attorney a percentage of what you are awarded. This percentage may be as much as 30 to 40 percent. There really isn't much left for you.

Susan is different. Susan asks for a small Flat Fee at the beginning, and then, when the court awards you, Susan takes a much smaller percentage. That way you keep a higher amount at the end.

The court may surprise you. On the day you believe you will have your Small Claims case heard, you think you are finally going to have the chance to tell your story, but then the judge may assign you and the other party to mediation. Right now. And the other guy has an Attorney.

Susan is a Certified Mediator who specializes in Small Claims Mediation. Susan knows what happens during the Mediation process and can help you through this little surprise the judge has thrown at you.

If you are the Defendant in a Small Claims action, you may need an Attorney then as well. Although it is called Small Claims, you may lose as much as Ten Thousand Dollars - and that is not really small to most of us.
